A nude man who was discovered at North Fork Middle School in Quicksburg early Tuesday morning has been charged with trespassing.
Michael Christian Scotchel, 42, of Fairmont, W.Va., was arrested after a school custodian reported that the man was in front of one of the entrances to the school at about 5:45 a.m., according to Major Scott Proctor of the Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office. Proctor said Scotchel was reported to have "no clothing on."
Proctor said alcohol was not believed to be a factor and there was no indication that Scotchel was trying to enter the school.
"The individual was homeless and just happened to be in the area and just happened to choose that location at random," he said. "There was no indication of any threat to the school."
Scotchel was picked up and taken into custody before any of the middle school students showed up, Proctor said. Scotchel was released from jail on a summons after being medically evaluated.
Proctor said there could be additional charges pending against Scotchel. Scotchel is scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County General District Court on Nov. 8.
