Man arrested in connection to Walmart larcenies
By Ryan Cornell
WINCHESTER -- A man accused of stealing jewelry from a Winchester Walmart on three separate occasions is now behind bars.
Brian Pelczynski, 28, of Winchester, was charged on Friday with two counts of felony grand larceny and one count of petty larceny, according to Winchester Police Department Spokeswoman Lauren Cummings.
Cummings said Pelczynski allegedly stole gold jewelry from the Walmart on South Pleasant Valley Road in Winchester on Oct. 17, Oct. 20 and Oct. 21.
She said the jewelry was kept behind a glass case and was valued in the "hundreds of dollars."
"Two hundred dollars is the magical number," she said. "Anything above two hundred dollars is grand larceny and anything below is petty. So one of the incidents was under two hundred dollars and the other two were above."
Pelczynski was caught on surveillance footage all three times at the Walmart store. Cummings said the police department released photos of the man from this footage to the public on Thursday.
"Within seconds of releasing the photos, we received tips from the public identifying the suspect," she said, adding that these tips were from people who recognized Pelczynski and knew where he worked.
The suspect was arrested in Loudoun County at about 11:45 a.m. on Friday and taken into custody at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
The Walmart on South Pleasant Valley Road is one of three Walmart stores in the city.
