Child molester sentenced to six years in prison

FRONT ROYAL — A Front Royal man was sentenced Monday in Warren County Circuit Court to six years in prison and lifetime probation on a charge of forcible sodomy with a child less than 13 years old.

The sentenced imposed on Craig Lawrence Osborne Jr., 30, of 13 Shenandoah Commons, essentially confirmed an earlier plea agreement under which Osborne agreed to serve six years in prison with another 40 years suspended.

Judge Dennis L. Hupp accepted the plea agreement in early September but waited for the completion of a pre-sentence report on Osborne before officially sentencing him Monday.

Osborne committed the crime between Jan. 1 and May 21 with a 6-year-old girl, according to court documents. Police began investigating after the girl told school officials that Osborne had engaged in sexual activity with her, the criminal complaint states.

Osborne pleaded guilty at his arraignment and after a grand jury indicted him on Sept. 3

The plea agreement calls for Osborne to serve five years probation, plus a period of “unsupervised probation to extend for the term of his natural life on such terms and conditions” as may be imposed later by the court.

The agreement requires Osborne to register as a sex offender and to have no contact with the victim without authorization by “a court of competent jurisdiction.”

The plea agreement also requires Osborne to waive his Fourth Amendment right under the U.S. Constitution against unreasonable search and seizure and agree to “inspection or search of his person, home, vehicle and electronic device of any kind whenever requested by his probation officer or any other law enforcement officer.”

Hupp also banned Osborne from having an Internet account under his own name and ordered him to enter into a sex offender treatment program as conditions of probation.
