Suspect sought in Edinburg home invasion

Daily staff report

Authorities are seeking the public's help in finding a suspect wanted in a home invasion that occurred near Edinburg on Monday morning.

An unidentified male forced his way into a home in the 13000 block of South Middle Road around 5 a.m., said Capt. Wes Dellinger of the Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office. The suspect damaged a door at the rear of the house and then confronted the resident, who was awoken by the noise.

The suspect demanded the resident give him money and any silver items in the house, Dellinger said. The victim gave cash to the suspect, who then fled the area. The victim didn't report any injuries.

The victim described the suspect as approximately 6 feet tall and last seen wearing khaki pants, gray gloves and a long-sleeved shirt. The suspect also concealed himself in a quilt he took from the house, Dellinger said.

The suspect neither displayed nor threatened to have any weapons, Dellinger said.

Authorities are asking that anyone who may have seen a suspicious person or vehicle in the area of the incident to contact the Sheriff's Office at 540-459-0610 or local police.
