Man charged in 2011 drug-related death

WINCHESTER -- A Fauquier County man stands charged with murder in the drug-related death of a Middletown woman in 2011.

Brian Wayne Singhas, 32, of 963 John Mosby Hwy, Paris, appeared in Frederick County Circuit Court on Friday. He is charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter and three counts of distribution of narcotics.

Singhas remains held without bond at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center.

Middletown police Chief R. Philip Breeden announced Thursday the arrest of Singhas in the unattended death of Sarah Rachel Christovich at a residence in town. Breeden said Thursday night the death was drug related but he couldn't go into details of the investigation.

In court, Judge Clifford L. "Clay" Athey Jr. scheduled Singhas' next appearance for Dec. 20. At that time the judge may set a trial date for the case.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Nicholas Manthos appeared for the prosecutor's office. Leesburg attorney Thomas S. Rock represents Singhas.

A grand jury indicted Singhas on Nov. 8, charging him with distribution of morphine, codeine and monoacetylmorphine. Authorities arrested Singhas Thursday and took him to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center where he was held without bond pending his court appearance.

Police and rescue workers sent to a residence in the 8000 block of South Main Street on July 2, 2011, found 28-year-old Christovich unresponsive, according to information released by Breeden shortly after the discovery. Christovich was taken to Winchester Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy showed that Christovich died from adverse affects of heroin and codeine, according to information provided by the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Manassas on Friday. The medical examiner ruled her death accidental.

An obituary for Christovich stated that she was born in Pittsburgh and was enrolled at Lord Fairfax Community College at the time of her death.
