The following public meetings are scheduled this week:
The Virginia Fire Services Board holds a "town hall" meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Shenandoah County Government Center, 600 N. Main St. The meeting allows residents to discuss fire and emergency medical services with the state agency's study team in an open forum. The agency is studying the county's delivery of fire and rescue services and reviewing several areas of responsibility.
Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Arthur L. Hildreth, Jr., Municipal Building, 9418 John Sevier Road. Council plans to hold a public hearing on a proposal to increase the transient occupancy, also known as the hotel or lodging tax, from 4 percent to 5 percent. Town officials have proposed the increase to fund a part-time marketing position for New Market. Council also may consider reappointing Jim Weissenborn and Chad Neese to the Historic Overlay District Review Board.
Town Council holds a work session at 6 p.m. Monday. Council plans to continue its discussion of the budget forecast and potential capital projects. Council also plans to meet in closed session to discuss an agreement under negotiation for the upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant and to discuss the acquisition of property for the Public Works Department.
The Parks and Recreation Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the community center, 538 Villa Ave.
The Finance and Personnel Committee of the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail Authority meets at noon Tuesday in the Warren County Government Center, 220 N. Commerce St.
The Board of Supervisors holds a work session at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the government center. The board will meet in closed session to discuss legal matters pertaining to the U.S. 340-522 North Corridor Agreement. Supervisors then hold their regular meeting at 7 p.m. The board will hold public hearings beginning at 7:30 p.m. on:
- A conditional-use permit requested by William Long for a commercial auto-repair garage
- A conditional-use permit requested by Stuart M. Perry Inc. for a batch-mix asphalt plant
- A proposed change in the county code to include a combined ordinance for erosion and sediment control and stormwater management
The board also plans to consider a request by Sheriff Danny McEathron for the purchase of computer-aided dispatch, records management system, mobile software and hardware from Southern Software for the Sheriff's Office for $309,270
The Front Royal Golf Club Advisory Committee meets at 10 a.m. Thursday at the club.
The Transition Committee of the RSW Regional Jail Authority meets at 1 p.m. Thursday followed by a meeting of the full board at 2 p.m.
The Town and County Liaison Committee meets at 6 p.m. in the government center.
The Commission on Local Government holds a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday in the Warren County Government Center, 220 N. Commerce St., on a proposed voluntary settlement agreement between the town and county related to an annexation request filed by the Front Royal Limited Partnership. The agreement provides for the incorporation of 604 acres of land in the county northeast of town; arrangements for future use, zoning requirements of the property and proffered conditions. The commission will hear presentations from the town, county and the property owners at 2 p.m. that day.
The Planning Commission holds a work session at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the county government center. The commission plans to discuss a proposed change to the town code, submitted by a consultant, pertaining to height and setback requirements for wireless telecommunication towers. The commission also plans to discuss a proposed change to the code as referred by Town Council regarding the regulation of the finished side of fences.
The Handley Regional Library Board meets at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Frederick County Sanitation Authority meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The School Board meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The Finance Committee meets at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
The Winchester-Frederick County Metropolitan Planning Organization board meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The Comprehensive Plans and Programs Committee meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The Tourism Board meets at 8 a.m. Thursday.
The Conservation Easement Authority meets at 8 a.m. Thursday.
The Winchester Regional Airport Authority meets at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Town Council holds a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday on proposed appropriations for the current fiscal budget.
The Water and Sewer Committee meets at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday followed by the Public Works Committee at 6 p.m.
The Public Safety Committee meets at 5 p.m. Thursday.
