Rite Aid robber sought by police
Daily staff report
WOODSTOCK -- A man suspected of robbing a pharmacy in town Wednesday night remains at large.
An unidentified white male with a thin build went into the Rite Aid at 120 W. Reservoir Road shortly after 6 p.m., Woodstock police Chief Eric Reiley said Thursday. The suspect walked to the pharmacy, approached an employee and demanded prescription medication, Reiley said. No weapon was displayed.
The suspect then jumped over the counter, grabbed a small amount of medicine and fled the store, Reiley said. No one reported injuries or damage to the pharmacy or store, the chief noted. The chief said he couldn't disclose what kind of medication the suspect as that information is part of the ongoing investigation.
Town police called in three tracking dogs to aid in the search for the suspect, last seen wearing a red, hooded sweatshirt and fingerless gloves, Reiley said. The hood partially covered the suspect's face. Witnesses told police the suspect fled north toward the Valley Vista Apartments. The tracking dogs followed a scent that led them to the area of the apartments but not into the complex.
Police are looking at video surveillance footage from nearby businesses to try and further identify the suspect. Witnesses did not provide an approximate age, height or weight of the suspect.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the police department at 459-2141.
