Police urge residents to shop safely on Friday

Daily Staff Report

The Winchester Police Department suggests Black Friday shoppers develop a personal safety and security plan and issued a list of tips:

  • Park in well-lit areas of store parking lots

  • Beware of your surroundings

  • Lock your car doors

  • Have your keys in hand when approaching your vehicle

  • Check the backseat and around the car before getting in

  • Be cautious when driving through parking lots and be aware of the people walking to and from stores

  • Shop with a friend or group

  • Place shopping bags in your trunk and do not leave packages visible in your car

  • Leave your purse at home to avoid purse snatchers and pickpockets

  • Carry your ID and credit cards in a front pocket

The police department will have extra patrols out as shoppers head to stores on Thanksgiving night and on Black Friday. Shoppers are reminded to immediately report any suspicious activity to police.
