Size of South Fork Fire remains constant, containment date unknown

Daily Staff Report

The South Fork forest fire, which was first reported on Monday, continues to burn 500 acres of the George Washington National Forest about 14 miles north of Luray.

A news release by the U.S. Forest Service reports that 145 firefighters had been assigned to the fire on Thursday, which is 45 more than on Wednesday. These firefighters will continue to monitor fire activity and construct containment lines while two helicopters continue with water drops, according to the release.

The release states that there is no estimated containment date and that no precipitation is expected until this weekend.
