Woman's body found in industrial park

Daily Staff Report

Authorities say believe they have discovered the remains of a woman reported missing since Sept. 9.

According to a release sent by the Cumberland City Police Department, the remains found Monday in a Winchester industrial park are believed to belong to Lisa Ann Simmons (Bennett), a murder victim from Cumberland, Md.

A suspect in her murder, Stephen George Schleuniger, 44, of Cumberland, was charged in September with her murder, despite law enforcement failing to locate her body.

The release states that the discovery of her suspected remains was made possible with the cooperation of Schleuniger.

Members of local law enforcement and Virginia State Police assisted in locating and recovering the body, which was sent to the Virginia State Medical Examiner's Office, states the release.

Schleuniger is scheduled to appear in Allegany County Circuit Court in Cumberland on Dec. 3.
