School employee run over in parking lot

By Katie Demeria

An employee of Sherando High School in Frederick County was hit and run over by a work truck Monday morning.

Gladys Gibson was clearing ice from a parked car while a school maintenance technician operated a 1997 Ford work truck with a snow blade attached, clearing snow from the parking lot.

Lt. Warren Gosnell, supervisor of the Frederick County Sheriff's office Traffic Division, said
Gibson thought the work vehicle was going to circle around the parking lot, so she headed back to the school.

"He was pushing snow past three parked cars, and Miss Gibson was clearing ice from one of those cars," Gosnell said.

"She was apparently in his blind spot when he backed up, and the rear bumper took contact with Miss Gibson and took her to the ground," he said. "Both legs were run over by the rear tires of the truck."

The driver heard Gibson after the initial impact and stopped, Gosnell added.

Gibson was awake when rushed to the Winchester Medical Center emergency room. Gosnell said her injuries did not appear life threatening.

No charges have been placed at this time.
