By Katie Demeria
MAURERTOWN -- Fire damaged a residence at 290 Keller Road on Monday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to the scene after a neighbor called in the emergency, according to Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Bill Streett.
"There was significant fire and smoke damage," Streett said. He noted that resident Tim Wiles was able to retrieve some salvageable belongings.
As of Monday, the cause of the fire was still under investigation. Streett said the fire originated in the front of the house.
"We had it contained within half an hour," he said.
Strasburg, Woodstock and Toms Brook fire departments, Star Tannery Fire and Rescue and Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue responded to the fire.
Streett said the Red Cross will be offering aid to Wiles.
