Star Tannery man dies after morning crash
By Joe Beck
A Star Tannery man died in a single vehicle crash early Tuesday morning.
Virginia State Police Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler said the victim, Kevin Ford Brill, 29, died of injuries from the crash around 12:36 p.m.
Tyler said trooper D.E. Adams was driving near the accident scene on U.S. 55 (Wardensville Pike) close to the West Virginia state line when he noticed a large amount of debris in the roadway. Adams found Brill trapped in a 2003 Ford F-350 pickup truck that had left the road and gone down an embankment.
Ambulance crews arriving from Middletown and Strasburg freed Brill from the truck, and he was taken to Winchester Medical Center where he died hours later, Tyler said.
Tyler said the truck crashed around 8:10 a.m. on U.S. 55 about six-tenths of a mile west of Va. 608.
The pickup truck was traveling west when it went off the road to the right, Tyler said. Brill overcorrected and crossed the road into the eastbound lane where he went off the left side and down an embankment. The vehicle overturned before coming to rest on the embankment, Tyler said.
Tyler said Adams discovered the overturned pickup a short time later.
Tyler said the crash was investigated by trooper B.M. Phillips. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Tyler said.
Brill was not wearing a seat belt, Tyler said.
