Two juveniles accused in spray painting spree

By Joe Beck

FRONT ROYAL -- An outbreak of vandalism has ended with town police arresting two male juveniles ages 14 and 16.

Police obtained seven juvenile petitions linking the two defendants to eight reports of vandalism on Dec. 4.

In a written statement, Chief Norman Shiflett said his department fielded reports of vandals leaving black spray paint on storage sheds at Helmuth Builders, several walls at Bing Crosby Stadium and Warren County Parks and Recreation property.

The suspects also defaced three vehicles, Shiflett said.

Shiflett said officer Kevin Orndorff developed leads that led to the two juvenile males who were subsequently interviewed about the vandalism.

Detective Jason Ryman said Wednesday there are no other known suspects in the case, and he does not expect any further charges against the two defendants.

"They mainly spray painted their initials, squiggly lines and things like that," Ryman said of the defendants.

"It pretty much looks like kids who wanted to get into mischief," Ryman added.

Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to contact officer Orndorff at 635-2111.

A scheduled court date for the defendants in juvenile and domestic relations court remains pending.
