Black formally enters 10th District congressional race

State Sen. Richard Black, R-Ashburn, formally declared Friday he is a candidate for his party’s nomination for Congress in the 10th District.

Black had already announced the formation of an exploratory committee earlier this month as preparation for the race to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Vienna.

In a statement issued by his campaign, Black touted his record in the General Assembly, citing his authorship of several transportation initiatives, support for gun ownership rights, and opposition to every tax increase proposed since he was elected to state office.

Black said he supports an energy policy that includes oil, coal, natural gas and nuclear power and promised to oppose what he described as the Environmental Protection Agency’s “war on U.S. business.”
