Juveniles responsible for $1000 in property damage

By Katie Demeria

Strasburg Police investigated eight cases of vandalism Friday and found three juvenile males responsible.

Most of the damage was in the area of Pleasant View Drive in Strasburg and occurred between 11 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., according to Chief Tim Sutherly.

"There was over $1000 in damage," Sutherly said. "It was widespread, mostly to outbuildings, and some air conditioning units and the sidings of houses. There were various amounts of damage to each house."

Authorities found the three juveniles on Friday after an individual in the 400 block of Art Street reported the vandalism. All three are 10 and 11 years of age.

"They were released to their parents, and they fully admitted what they had done," Sutherly said. "They'll be dealt with through the juvenile court system."

Sutherly said the current plan is to get juvenile petitions for the males, which are forms of juvenile arrest.

"There could be an order of deferment, though," he added. "In other words, they could be ordered to do some kind of community service, without getting them into the court system."

But children so young, Sutherly pointed out, are limited in the amount of community service they can perform, so it is unclear whether or not that is an option.

"We're hoping they've learned their lessons and won't do it again," Sutherly said.
