Tanning salon robbed

By Katie Demeria

The Warren County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who robbed a tanning salon in Front Royal on Tuesday.

Deputies were called to Beach Bum Tanning, 50 Riverton Commons, at 7:06 p.m.

According to a news release, a white man described by an employee as thin with sandy hair, wearing a white hoodie sweatshirt and blue jeans, and between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 11 inches, entered the business claiming to be a maintenance worker.

When an employee was distracted the man opened the cash drawer and took some money. A wallet also was stolen.

A Sheriff's Office canine was brought to the scene, but Sheriff Danny McEathron said it was not successful in tracking the suspect.

"He may have picked up a track, but was unable to sustain it for very long, which usually means that there was a car or something involved that took away the trail," McEathron said.

The investigation led authorities to believe the suspect was driving a dark-colored sedan.

Before the robbery, suspicious activity was reported at Wal-Mart located in the Riverton Commons. Authorities are still investigating whether the two incidents are connected.

"The investigators have been out all day today just following leads and trying to talk to some people and track down whatever they can," McEathron said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Investigator Smoot at the Warren County Sheriff's Office at 540-635-7100.
