Bayse man dies in car crash

By Katie Demeria

A single-vehicle crash on Fairway Drive in Shenandoah County resulted in the driver's death, according to Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler of the Virginia State Police.

Patrick Virgil Johnson, 46, of Bayse, was traveling northbound in a 2006 Dodge Caravan near his residence at Bryce Resort.

"He entered a sharp right-hand curve, and the vehicle went off the road and into a pond and was submerged," Tyler said.

Johnson was still inside the vehicle when it was found, Tyler added. Johnson was the van's only occupant.

Trooper D.W. Burkeholder reported to the scene at 12:30 a.m., according to a Virginia State Police press release.

Officials are still investigating the incident, Tyler added, and are looking into the exact time of the crash and the cause of death.

"We're looking at all plausible causes," he said.
