Man dies at local truck stop when vehicle rolls over him

By Katie Demeria

A truck driver was killed at a Mount Jackson truck stop Wednesday when his tractor-trailer rolled on top of him, according to Virginia State Police.

Delmar Lee Oscar, 62, of Broadway, arrived at the Liberty truck stop near the 273 exit off Interstate 81 at around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to Sgt. F. L. Tyler. Oscar was driving a 2005 Mack Truck.

"In the process of trying to make some mechanical repairs and adjustments to the vehicle, he crawled under the vehicle, and the vehicle rolled back on top of him," Tyler said.

"Mr. Oscar did die as a result of injuries sustained in the incident," Tyler added.

Oscar's body was not found until 9:30 p.m., when officials were called to the scene to investigate.

Tyler said the causes and factors of the incident are still being investigated by Trooper J.L. Street.
