Public meetings Jan. 27-31

Shenandoah County
The Board of Supervisors meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the government center at 600 N. Main St., Woodstock. Supervisors plan to hold public hearings on:


  • A proposal to amend the county code in relation to building construction and unsafe structures

  • A proposed partial transfer of terms of a contract from the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging to People Inc., and to enter into a purchase agreement with People Inc. for the portion of the county-owned property on the north side of Court Street, across from the former Woodstock School, directly associated with the construction of senior housing previously approved by the Department of Housing and Urban Development


The board also plans to hear the presentation on the annual audit and on a resolution to recognize heroism. Supervisor then plan to meet in closed session to discuss appointments to several boards and committees.

Strasburg
Town Council holds committee meetings beginning at 5 p.m. Monday in town hall, 174 E. King St. The Infrastructure Committee meets to discuss the Ash Street project, the Downtown Streetscape Enhancement, circulation on the east side of town along East Washington Street. The committee will hear updates on the water treatment plant and the wastewater treatment plant upgrade. The Finance and Personnel Committee holds interviews with candidates for a position on the Architectural Review Board at 6:30 p.m. The committee then holds its regular meeting at 7 p.m., where they plan to review the fiscal 2013 audit and then discuss availability fees.

The Planning Commission and Ordinance Committee hold a joint meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The panels plan to review the draft of the Unified Development Ordinance, with a focus on zoning maps for X-transitional parcels; provide input from the consultant and to discuss the schedule for presenting the document to Town Council.

Woodstock
Town Council holds committee meetings beginning at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Town Hall.
The Tourism and Economic Development Committee plans to hear a presentation from Shenandoah County Tourism Director Jenna French.

The Finance Committee plans to discuss repairs to equipment at the wastewater treatment facility and a resolution associated with the financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development for the purchase of police vehicles and equipment.

The Ordinance Committee plans to review ordinance chapters and a joint agreement with the county for the administration of development proffers.

The Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Commissioners will review a site plan for McDonald's. They also will review the Capital Improvement Plan.

Warren County
The Board of Supervisors holds a work session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the county government center, 220 N. Commerce Ave. The board plans to discuss funding for the Humane Society animal shelter. Following the session, supervisors hold their regular meeting at 7 p.m. The board will hold public hearings at 7:30 p.m. on:


  • A proposed agreement to relocate a portion of the boundary line between Front Royal and Warren County south of Happy Creek Road

  • A proposed change in the county code pertaining to peddlers and dealers

  • A conditional-use permit requested by Donald and Judith Layman


Supervisors plan to consider a request for a resolution to accept approximately 3.19 acres of land on Freezeland Road from the Board of Game and Inland Fisheries. Supervisors then plan to meet in closed session to discuss appointments to several boards and committees and the acquisition of real property for a public purpose.

Front Royal
Town Council holds a work session at 6 p.m. Monday in the county government center.

Council plans to meet in closed session to receive legal counsel and to discuss the disposition of the former town hall. Following the work session, council plans to hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Council will hold a public hearing on a memorandum of agreement with the Front Royal-Warren County Economic Development Authority that incorporates a land exchange between the EDA and Afton Inn LLC. Council then plans to consider an amendment to the current fiscal budget for the purchase of a new telephone system. Then council will meet in closed session to discuss the community development director position.

Frederick County
The Public Works Committee meets at 8 a.m. Tuesday in the county government center at 107 N. Kent St., Winchester.

Middletown
The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Monday in town hall at 7875 Church St.

Stephens City
The Parks and Recreation Committee meets at 5 p.m. Monday in town hall at 1033 Locust St.

The Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in town hall.
