The Harry F. Byrd Jr. School of Business at Shenandoah University will host its sixth annual Business Symposium from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 25. The event is open to members of the regional business community as well as high school and college students and will be held in the school's Halpin-Harrison Hall. The keynote speakers at this year's symposium are former Porsche Automotive Group CEO and President Peter Schutz, Inova CEO Knox Singleton and Valley Health CEO and President Mark Merrill. Valley Workforce has announced that it is offering no-cost training scholarships and services to area job seekers. More than $100,000 is available to assist eligible unemployed workers and disadvantaged adults who require training to compete in the job market. Eligible participants can choose training courses from a list of qualified training providers including local community colleges, technology centers and others approved by the Shenandoah Valley Workforce Investment Board. Winchester-based construction firm Howard Shockey & Sons Inc. has announced two new senior management hires and a promotion. Tommy Tortorich, who has previously worked with HITT Contracting and StructureTone in Northern Virginia and specializes in construction for health care, pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients, has been hired as a project manager. Brett Kass, who previously worked with Jacobs, Turner Construction and Barton Marlow and specializes in construction for healthcare and biotechnology clients, has also been hired as a project manager. Andrea Rogers, a marketing research specialist with the company, has been promoted to expand Shockey's business development and marketing in the greater Washington, D.C., area.2014
