Defendant in escape case still held without bond

Daily staff report

Jeremy McWilliams, a defendant charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, remained in jail Friday after Shenandoah County Circuit Court Judge Dennis L. Hupp earlier this week ordered him to continue to be held without bail.

Hupp ordered McWilliams’ held without bond after Shenandoah County General District Court Judge Dev Morrison set bail for McWilliams at $15,000 secured bond on Tuesday.

Assistant commonwealth’s attorney Lou Campola appealed the bail determination to Hupp on Wednesday.

McWilliams, 29, of Star Tannery, is accused of breaking away briefly from deputies who were attempting to escort him to the jail after he was arrested during a heroin-related drug bust in mid-December.

Authorities say one deputy received a minor hand injury in the effort to recapture McWilliams.
