Five people were transported to local hospitals after a two-vehicle crash Sunday.
At around 12:40 p.m., a 16-year-old male was traveling westbound in a 1996 Chevy four-door on John Marshall Highway near High Knob in Warren County when he collided with an oncoming vehicle, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. F.L. Tyler.
“He ran off the road to the right, side-swiped a guard rail, and then came across into the eastbound lanes and struck a 2004 Acura passenger vehicle head-on,” Tyler said.
“[The driver] was subsequently charged with reckless driving,” he continued.
The driver, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time, was transported to Winchester Medical Center, Tyler added.
Four people occupied the Acura, Tyler said. All were from Bowie, Md.
Vighna Rajesh Karyampudi, 26, was driving, while a 29-year-old sat in the front passenger seat, along with a 30-year-old and a 35-year-old in the back.
All four were taken to Warren Memorial Hospital.
According to Tyler, John Marshall Highway was closed for just under an hour after the incident.
Trooper T.L. Hilliker investigated the incident, Tyler said. Warren County Sheriff’s Department and local fire and rescue assisted Hilliker at the scene.
