Man dies in single car crash
A Winchester man died Saturday in single car crash on Va. 7, 200 yards east of Chilly Hollow Road.
Virginia State Police Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler said the driver of the car, Robert Henry Barnhart Jr., 42, of Winchester, died at the scene of injuries from the crash.
Tyler said Barnhart's 2008 Nissan Altima was traveling westtbound on Va. 7 at a high speed when he passed a Clarke County deputy. The car continued down the road about a mile until it ran off a median strip and turned over several times. Barnhart, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car, Tyler said.
Tyler said the deputy was not pursuing Barnhart at the time of the crash, but had followed him with the intention of giving him a ticket for speeding.
Tyler said speed was a factor in the crash. The crash was investigated by Trooper C.L. Garrison.
