School board adds two days to calendar

Students in Shenandoah County Public Schools will now be attending class on April 17, and May 6.
The two dates were approved as makeup days at a School Board meeting Thursday night. The days will be used to replace some of the 12 days and nine hours of instructional time missed due to inclement weather this year.
Originally scheduled as a professional work day, May 6 is also town election day for Shenandoah County. Division Superintendent Jeremy Raley said he talked with the voter registrar and the principals of Central High School and Strasburg High School, who did not see a concern.
“With town elections, traditionally the turnout is low and I don’t see an issue associated with that,” Raley said.
Earlier this month, the School Board added President’s Day and April 22 as instructional days to the calendar, bringing the total number of makeup days to four.
