Fresh donuts coming to Strasburg

STRASBURG — A new donut and coffee shop in Strasburg could open before the end of this month.
JK Donut Plant, located at the corner of King and Massanutten streets, is the latest business in the building formerly housing a nail salon and chocolate shop.
Shop owner Jung Kim, 60, spent years making donuts in Korea, California and Texas before moving to Strasburg at the end of last year.
“I like this quiet place,” she said. “This is a country style.”
Kim said donuts in the U.S. are nearly identical to those from her home country.
“Oh, it’s almost the same, but in style, a little bit different design,” she said, noting that American donuts are plainer than Korean ones.
A Dunkin’ Donuts sits just down the road, but she said her donuts are different. She said her donuts are bigger and will be made from scratch every day inside the shop.
On Monday, contractors were at work installing a hood and fire suppression system inside the building. Kim said she plans to paint the exterior, but hasn’t decided on a color yet.
She said she plans to keep the shop open every day between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m.
