Heroin blamed in third recent drug overdose death

A heroin-related overdose has claimed the life of a third person within the past week in Frederick County, law enforcement authorities reported Friday.

Lauren M. Hannan, 23, died at the Winchester Medical Center Thursday, days after deputies from Frederick County found her needing emergency attention at a residence in the 100 block of Parkside Drive on Monday, according to a news release from the Northwest Virginia Regional Drug Task Force.

She was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Hannan's death is the region's ninth heroin-related overdose recorded since Jan. 1, three of them coming since March 13.

A 34-year-year-old New York man and a 49-year-old Frederick County woman have died from apparent overdoses at county residences within the past few days, according to the news release.
