Man charged after robbery investigation

Daily staff report

A Front Royal man was charged late Wednesday in relation to a Kmart robbery, according to a Front Royal Police Department news release.

Daniel Joseph McKay Haugan, 28, of 415 E Criser Road, is accused of robbing the 465 South St. Kmart shortly before 1:30 p.m. Jan. 18.

The suspect had approached the pharmacy and handed the pharmacist a note in which he demanded prescription medication, the release stated. The robber fled after obtaining the medication.

Officers searched but were unable to locate the suspect.

“[Chief Norman] Shiflett advised that with very little evidence to go on, the case turned up a limited number of leads to develop,” the release stated.

The lead detective in the case, Detective Erik Rosemeck, was pleased with the efforts of the officers involved in the investigation, according to the release.

Shiflett attributed the case’s quick resolution to the joint effort of those in several divisions within his department.

The release stated that Haugan’s charge of robbery could result in five years to life in a state correctional facility.
