Sears named vice president of Education Board

The new leadership atop the Virginia Board of Education includes a woman from Frederick County.

Winsome E. Sears, a businesswoman who was appointed to the Board of Education in 2011, was elected by the board as its vice president on Thursday.

Sears is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the House of Delegates from 2002 to 2003. She also served as chairman of the board’s College Partnership Laboratory Schools Committee.

Sears replaces Betsy D. Beamer of Henrico County, whose four-year term ended in January.

The Virginia Board of Education also elected Christian N. Braunlich of Fairfax County as its president, who replaces David M. Foster of Arlington County.
