Daily staff report

Warren County Department of Fire and Rescue responded to two "separate but significant" structure fires Thursday, according to a news release.

Crews were initially called to 615 Joan's Quadrangle Road in the Shenandoah Farms area at 2:46 p.m. The house was fully involved by the time firefighters arrived, the release stated, and flames were spreading to the surrounding woodland area.

"Firefighters quickly controlled the spread of the fire through the woods and then concentrated on protecting adjoining exposures," the release stated.

Crews were battling wind gusts of up to 32 mph and a wind chill that reached below 20 degrees. They remained on scene for over five hours to extinguish the flames and make sure the blaze would not spread to surrounding properties.

The release stated that the house was a total loss, with damage estimates reaching over $300,000. No occupants were home at the time of the fire.

Shenandoah Farms Volunteer Fire Department, Front Royal Volunteer Fire Department, Linden Volunteer Fire Department, Shenandoah Shores Volunteer Fire Department, Rivermont Volunteer Fire Department, and Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the fire, as well as crews from Page County and Strasburg Fire and EMS crews.

Later that night, at 11:07 p.m., crews responded to a reported house fire at 152 Overall Road in Bentonvile, the release continued.

The occupants of the home had self-rescued, it reported, and "firefighters encountered extreme fire conditions."

"After a quick knockdown from the outside, firefighters entered the home for an aggressive fire attack throughout the living areas of the home," the release stated. "Firefighters soon battled the blaze with multiple hand lines as the fire breached and spread throughout the roof system of the home."

The home stood a few feet within Page County, so that county's fire department and EMS crews were notified.

"Warren and Page County fire crews worked together well into the early morning hours to bring the fire under control and fully extinguish the blaze," the release stated.

This house, too, was a total loss, according to the release. The incident is being investigated by the Page County Sheriff's Office.

South Warren Volunteer Fire Department, Rivermont Volunteer Fire Department, Front Royal Volunteer Fire Department, Linden Volunteer Fire Department, and Shenandoah Shores Volunteer Fire Department also responded, as well as crews from Page County.
