Authorities have charged a Front Royal man as the seventh defendant in a case involving the disappearance and murder of Waynesboro Police Reserve Capt. Kevin Quick.

Kweli Uhuru, 23, has been charged with gang participation in a criminal act and is scheduled to appear in Goochland County General District Court on Monday. He is being held in the Northwestern Adult Detention Center in Winchester.

Uhuru had already been in jail on a probation violation and is scheduled to appear in Winchester Circuit Court on Friday on that matter, according to online court records.

"All I can say is, yes, the additional charge was placed in connection with the murder of Kevin Quick," said Corrine Geller, a spokeswoman with the Virginia State Police.

Claiborne Stokes, the Goochland County commonwealth's attorney, had little to say about the gang participation charges against Uhuru filed in his county.

"He was served in jail," Stokes said of Uhuru. "I don't know what he was in on."

Uhuru, also known as Travis Leon Bell, joins six others who have been defendants at one time or another in the case. Charges against two of the defendants have been dropped. The other four defendants are all charged with gang participation.

Quick, 45, of Rockfish, was reported missing on Feb. 1 and was found dead in Goochland County on Feb. 6.

The state police and FBI continue to investigate the case.
