Shentel, cable companies reach agreement with Viacom

Daily Staff Report

After hours of negotiating past Monday night’s deadline, the National Cable Television Cooperative — which includes Shentel — has reached an agreement with programming company Viacom.

According to the TV On My Side website that was created to inform viewers about the programming dispute, the Viacom channels, which range from CMT and MTV to Comedy Central and Spike, will remain on the televisions of Shentel subscribers.

The website states that the cooperative was able to reach a “more reasonable and lower fee increase from Viacom for their channels.”

Officials from Shentel were unavailable for comment on Wednesday.
