WOODSTOCK -- A search warrant inventory filed in Shenandoah County Circuit Court lists eight firearms among the items recovered from the home of Daniel Scott Harvey after a fatal shooting Monday night.

The shooting led to Harvey, 33, of 600 Stephens Lane, Fort Valley, being charged with voluntary manslaughter in the death of Harry Grant Nelson III, 36, whose address has been tentatively identified as Winchester.

Members of the Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office also recovered two knives, shotgun ammunition, two laptop computers and five swabs of an unspecified red stain, according to the inventory.

The guns included two .22 caliber rifles, a single shot shotgun, a Stevens rifle, an unspecified rifle and two muzzle loaders.

Nelson died at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital on Monday about an hour after members of the Sheriff's Office arrived at Harvey's home.

A search warrant affidavit filed by Lt. Thomas Shelton states that he arrived at 600 Stephens Lane after a 911 call was made at 7:18 p.m. Shelton wrote that he found "one male subject with trauma to the body and found a second male subject had been transported to the hospital."

Sheriff Timothy C. Carter said investigators have recovered what they believe to be the gun used in the shooting but did not specify the type of firearm.

"We believe it was one of those recovered with the search warrant," Carter said of the gun.

Authorities linked the shooting to a previous relationship Harvey had with one of several people who appeared at his home with Nelson on the night of the shooting.

Carter said the exact nature of the relationship remains murky, but "it's a more a domestic boyfriend-girlfriend relationship."
