Daily staff report
Frederick County authorities have identified a man whose body was found Saturday morning in a car submerged in the Opequon Creek about 200 yards north of the low water bridge in the 1600 block of Old Charlestown Road.
The victim, Bryan Sears, 23, of Middletown, Md., was pronounced dead, according to a news release issued by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. Underwater rescuers from the Sheriff's Office and Stephens City Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department found Sears after darkness and flooding in the creek stymied initial attempts to locate the vehicle, according to Capt. Donnie Lang of the Sheriff's Office.
Lang stated in a news release that an unidentified person had made a 911 call around 4:20 a.m. and reported a vehicle filling with water and sinking.
Lang said the phone disconnected before a dispatcher could learn the location of the emergency, but the call was traced to the bridge in northern Frederick County.
