WOODSTOCK -- A Toms Brook man already jailed on an armed burglary charge and misdemeanor counts linked to what authorities say is his ex-girlfriend's fear of him faces new charges of assault on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor assault.
Major. Scott Proctor of the Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office said Jonathan David Funkhouser, 32, of 27 Round Hill Park, is accused of being involved in two separate incidents on May 7 and May 9, in the jail.
"He's been accused of attempting to grab two female staff members," Proctor said, adding that one of the victims was a jail deputy, "so technically it's an assault on a law enforcement officer."
Proctor said no one was injured during the incidents and declined additional comment on the case.
Funkhouser is scheduled to appear in general district court on the new charges at 2 p.m. Friday.
The earlier case against Funkhouser involves accusations by law enforcement officials that he walked into a house where he believed an ex-girlfriend was coming to care for an elderly resident.
A criminal complaint in the case states that the ex-girlfriend was "very scared" of Funkhouser "due to past abuse."
Authorities say they found an 81/2-inch knife on Funkhouser at the time of his arrest on the earlier charges.
