Man indicted in stabbing case

By Joe Beck

FRONT ROYAL -- A town resident made an initial appearance Tuesday in Warren
County Circuit Court to face charges stemming from the mid-February stabbing of a Front Royal woman who was hospitalized with life-threatening wounds.

A grand jury Monday indicted Eric Lamont Garris on charges of malicious wounding and stabbing while committing a felony.

Authorities accuse Garris, 29, of stabbing Cassandra Porter, 24, several times in the couple's home at 450 Hill St. while they were in the midst of a domestic dispute. Police described them at the time as boyfriend and girlfriend.

Front Royal police responded to a call from Warren County Memorial Hospital informing them of Porter's injuries. Police said Garris drove Porter to the hospital emergency room after the stabbing. She was treated and later taken to Winchester Medical Center.

Police interviewed Garris at Warren Memorial Hospital before taking him into custody. He has been held without bond since then. He appeared in court Tuesday with his defense attorney, Eric Wiseley.

Wiseley indicated that he believed the case would be resolved in negotiations during the next few weeks.

"I believe we're going to have an agreement in this case," Wiseley told Circuit Judge Dennis L. Hupp.

Hupp scheduled the next hearing for 9 a.m. June 3.
