When several superintendents retire this summer, Pamela McInnis will become the longest tenured superintendent of a county school division in Virginia.

McInnis has served as superintendent of Warren County Public Schools since July 2001. She first joined the division in 1991.

The three superintendents with longer tenures who are retiring in June and July include Edgar B. Hatrick III, superintendent of Loudoun County Public Schools since 1991; Phil Worrell, superintendent of Greensville County Public Schools since 1995; and Janet C. Crawley, superintendent of Charles City County Public Schools since 1999.

McInnis will be tied for longest tenure of any Virginia school superintendent with Joseph O. Cox Jr. of Colonial Heights Public Schools, a municipal school division, who also started his tenure in 2001.

McInnis was recently named Citizen of the Year by the Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce last month.

Despite many of her contemporaries choosing to retire, McInnis said she is "not at that point yet."

"It has been my privilege to serve as superintendent of Warren County Public Schools for the last 13 years and I look forward to my next year(s) of service," she wrote in an email on Tuesday. "The students and the community have been well served by our public schools. It has been a joint effort from everyone involved to do what is in the best interest of the children in this community."

Information about superintendents from other school divisions was provided by the Richmond Times-Dispatch
