STRASBURG -- Strasburg Fire Department authorities removed a man from his vehicle around 11 a.m. Monday after his car was driven into a ditch behind the Strasburg United Methodist Church.
Firefighter Brandon Dodson worked command on the 114 West Washington Street scene. He said he was unable to identify the driver, but his injuries appeared minor.
Jessica Ittner of Life Line Screenings, which was holding a screening drive in the church at the time, said she alerted rescue crews to the car's position.
"I was able to talk to him, and he said he had some chest pain and back pain," Ittner said.
Ittner said the man refused her offer to help him out of the vehicle, which had collided with railroad tracks at the bottom of the ditch. He waited instead for firefighters to arrive.
"He was not trapped, it was just a matter of stabilizing the vehicle until we were able to get him out," Dodson said.
Strasburg Volunteer Rescue transported the driver to Winchester Medical Center, Dodson said.
