Detour planned on U.S. 340 at Gooney Creek

Daily staff report

Motorists who use U.S. 340 South in Warren County can expect delays near Gooney Creek next week.

The Virginia Department of Transportation rescheduled the brief detour on U.S. 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) about four miles south of Front Royal to begin Monday and take place through July 3. Contractors plan to install concrete pipe under the road as part of the Gooney Creek Bridge replacement project. All work is weather permitting.

Motorists will use a temporary gravel road through the work zone. The detour should allow for two-way traffic but flagging operations will take place 24 hours a day. Drivers should expect delays until workers complete the pipe installation, which VDOT estimates to occur Thursday morning.
