New Market likely to announce new town manager

New Market is expected to pick its next town manager next week.

Mike Ritchie has served as New Market’s interim town manager since May, when Evan Vass left the town manager position to become the assistant county administrator for Shenandoah County.

Town Council is likely to announce the selection of its new town manager on Tuesday, said Ritchie, who was one of six candidates interviewed for the position.

The special meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the town’s municipal building. An agenda for the meeting lists other action items, including the election of a vice mayor, election of a planning commission representative and the mayor’s appointment of committee assignments.

Ritchie said this type of organizational meeting is held every two years.

“We’re hanging in there, and hopefully we’ll get things squared away,” he said. “Once we get the town manager finalized, we can all start moving forward again.”
