The Northern Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects recently awarded a design Award of Excellence to Reader & Swartz Architects, P.C. The honor was given in recognition of the renovation of the Samuel Noakes House, a historic structure, at the corner of West Cork and South Braddock streets in Winchester.

Tammy Orndorff of Creature Comfort Inn in Strasburg was recently nominated in the annual Pet Industry Woman of the Year Award competition in the Rising Star category. The competition is run by the Women in the Pet Industry Conference and Awards Show.

Orndorff has been in the pet industry for 25 years and in business for two years. She and the other nominees will be judged by a panel of four independent judges.

Local travel agent Margaret Gochenour of Alpha Voyages Inc. recently participated in a travel agent workshop through Unique Vacations Inc. The workshop was intense, according to a news release, and included information on various resorts, along with developments, services and amenities. All those who participate in the workshop are eligible to become Certified Sandals Specialists.
