Chamber searches for new executive director

The Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce is seeking a new executive director to move the organization forward.
Former Executive Director Jackie Thompson stepped down at the beginning of this month after a year with the chamber to pursue a position with the Northern Virginia Daily.
Board of Directors President Clay Arthur said the organization is now looking for someone who can do more than handle the administrative tasks.
“We’re looking for somebody with leadership qualities,” Arthur said. “We’re hoping the direction will be toward business networking and opportunities to create benefits for our members, rather than focusing on administrative things.
“We’re looking for somebody to move the chamber forward in a way that benefits our businesses.”
Arthur said the Board of Directors hopes the new director will expand opportunities for local businesses by increasing membership, allowing for more networking, increasing exposure inside and outside the county and, ultimately, creating value for members. He described it as a development position.
The board has been meeting frequently in the past several weeks to determine “the vision of what we want the chamber to become over the next one, three, and five years,” Arthur continued.
They will seek an individual who can help them meet those goals.
“The board is still meeting to determine what we want that direction to be,” he said.
