A man robbed the United Bank at 199 Front Royal Pike in Winchester on Monday morning and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.
In a news release, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office described the man as in his early to mid-20s, 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing blue jeans and a white short sleeve button-up style shirt with blue pin stripes and sunglasses.
Capt. Donnie Lang said in an interview the robber did not display a weapon nor threaten anyone with any unseen objects. No one was injured.
"He actually bolted over the top of the counter and was on the tellers' side and demanded they open the tellers' drawers, which they did, and took the money out and handed it to him," Lang said.
The robber ran east from the rear of the bank between Delco Plaza and the Costco store, the Sheriff's Office reported. He was last seen entering a large late model four-door sedan. The car, estimated to be a late 1980s or early 1990s model, is faded burgundy with no hubcaps and a damaged rear bumper, the Sheriff's Office said.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 662-6162 or Crime Solvers at 665-8477.
The robbery was committed close to another robbery reported in the Costco parking lot on July 9.
"They're not related whatsoever," Lang said of the two cases.
The victim in the July 9 robbery reported two females approached him at a traffic light and asked if he could give them a ride to Costco, according to a Crime Solvers media release. He agreed, but when they reached Costco, one female produced a weapon and demanded all of his money, the media release stated
The victim said he gave all his cash to the female, who then seized his ignition key and fled on foot with the other woman, according to the news release.
Lang said the investigation has been hampered by a lack of cooperation from the victim.
"We believe there was more to it than what he was saying," Lang said, adding that the Sheriff's Office has had trouble contacting the victim.
