Edinburg man dies in crash

Daily staff report

An Edinburg man died at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday following an accident on Mount Olive Road in Shenandoah County.

Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler of the Virginia State Police identified the victim as Steven Howard Stout, 56, of Edinburg.

Tyler said a 1977 Ford motor home traveling westbound on Mount Olive Road in Toms Brook, about one-tenth of a mile west of Interstate 81 at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, was making a left-hand turn into the Love’s Travel Stop when the motorcycle driven by Stout struck the right rear side of the motor home.

Stout was transported to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital where he later died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, Tyler said.

The driver of the motor home was Charles D. Collette, 75, of Dayton, Virginia. Tyler said Collette was charged with reckless driving.

No one in the motor home was injured.

Fire and rescue squads from Toms Brook and Strasburg responded to the scene.
