Daily staff report
A fish kill occurred Friday evening as the result of a discharge into Happy Creek in Front Royal, according to news releases over the weekend by Steve Burke, town manager.
Burke noted that an unknown amount of detergent was discharged into the creek, but that there was no adverse effect on the town's drinking water and that Department of Environmental Quality representatives report the creek is safe for recreational use.
"The discharge was traced to a car wash at 5th Street and Commerce Avenue," Burke stated in the release. He added an investigation is continuing.
Police and the Front Royal Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department responded to the scene Friday evening.
