Search warrant executed at residence familar to police
By Joe Beck
Strasburg police executed a search warrant Aug. 7 at a residence identified in court documents as the scene of five police or emergency rescue squad dispatches involving drug or bath salts use in the last year.
Police seized a variety of items from 636 Capon Road, according to the search warrant inventory filed in circuit court.
An affidavit filed by Investigator C.S. Dodson, a member of the Strasburg police assigned to the Northwest Virginia Regional Drug Task Force, states that police were called to the residence on Aug. 7 to investigate a report of someone passed out.
Strasburg deputy police chief Jerome Robinson said in an interview that Bobby Deavers, 51, who lives at the residence, was the person who had passed out.
"After interviewing him, he admitted to taking bath salts after which time the drug task force was called and Investigator Dodson obtained a search warrant from the magistrate at which time they found a substance that appeared to be bath salts," Robinson said.
The search warrant affidavit states that the rescue squad was called to the same address on July 30 to treat a 27-year-old woman suffering from chest pains. No cause was given for the chest pains.
Ambulance calls were also reported on Jan. 10, Sept. 29, Sept. 5 and Aug. 20, all but one of which listed Deavers as the person in need of treatment.
Deavers complained of chest pains from ingesting too much cocaine on Sept. 29, the affidavit states. He also reported symptoms linked to excessive cocaine use on Sept. 5 and Aug. 20, according to the affidavit.
Robinson said Deavers has not been arrested so far. Robinson said items seized at the residence were sent away to the state crime laboratory for analysis.
"No arrest will be made before we get the results back," Robinson said.
Court documents list four smoking devices, a small purse with two bags of crystal material, a clock with white residue and a baggie with white residue, as among the items seized at Deavers' residence.
