FRONT ROYAL -- Sunflower came to the Warren County animal shelter as a shy cat that quickly scurried into hiding.

The female orange tabby has warmed up to people since she arrived in May but shelter worker Lea Frazier says Sunflower is now ready for a new home.

"She is a love bug," Frazier said Wednesday. "It's just going to take a while to get used to her new home."

Sunflower loves to be scratched, sit on laps and lay in boxes, Frazier said.

Sunflower is still shy and would need some time to warm up to a new family, she added.

The previous owner couldn't take the cat on a move outside the area and surrendered the animal to the shelter May 9.

Sunflower is spayed and up to date on all its necessary vaccines. She didn't need any special treatment when given to the shelter.

"She was very scared in the front kennels and she ran into my office between the file cabinet and the wall for almost two weeks," Frazier said.

"She would come out at night when we weren't here and now, as you can see, she has the run of the shelter."

Sunflower behaved in a similar way before coming to the shelter.

"They said at home she was very timid," Frazier said.

To adopt Sunflower, contact the Humane Society of Warren County, 1245 Progress Drive, Front Royal, at 635-4734 or visit its website at http://tiny.cc/l14alx for more information.
