TOMS BROOK -- There's a new face on town staff.
Stephanie Langton, 26, who joined the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission as a regional planner in June, is Toms Brook's new planning and zoning administrator.
She replaces Tyler Klein, who took a position with Loudoun County earlier this summer.
Originally from Rhode Island, Langton received her bachelor's degree from the University of Richmond. She graduated in 2013 from the University of Virginia's Graduate School of Architecture with a master's degree in urban and environmental planning, a master's degree in architectural history and a certificate in historic preservation.
She has completed internships with Chesterfield County and with Timberville, where she helped draft the historic district nomination for the town.
This is Langton's first job out of grad school, and she said she's excited to work with the people of Toms Brook.
"What draws me to it, much like what drew me to Timberville, is the beautiful confluence of old buildings and history and people who appreciate that history and the mountains and the views and the natural resources," she said. "I think a small town like that sort of has it all. And the people who bring it all together who care about making it great."
Currently, she's working on rezoning property adjacent to the old school at 3224 South Main St.
Martha Shickle, executive director of the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission, said Langton has also been working as a zoning administrator for Strasburg until they identify a candidate to fill the position.
She said Langton's duties will include working with the Toms Brook Planning Commission and mayor to prepare and manage agendas, follow the town's comprehensive plan and handle day-to-day inquiries from the public.
"We were really, really glad to have her come on board," Shickle said.
The Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission supports the towns and counties of Shenandoah, Warren, Frederick, Clarke and Page and the city of Winchester.
