Woman, child injured in domestic dispute

STRASBURG — A local man is facing several felony charges stemming from what police describe as a fight with his girlfriend that left her with cuts requiring 30 stitches.
Bobby Neal Henderson II, 28, of 509 W. King St., was charged with malicious wounding, abduction by force or intimidation; assault and battery of a family member, damaging a phone line to prevent a 911 call and cruelty and injury to a child.
Maj. Jerome Robinson of the Strasburg Police Department said Henderson and Ashly Dotson, 24, got into a dispute on Aug. 16 that turned physical. Police were called to Henderson and Dotson’s residence at about 9 p.m.
“She was held against her will and held down,” Robinson said of Dotson. “That’s where they get the abduction by force and intimidation charge.”
Robinson said Dotson’s daughter was also injured. He estimated the daughter’s age to be less than 10 months. The daughter received a bruise on her arm as Dotson held her during the struggle, Robinson said. Both victims were treated at Winchester Medical Center and released.
“He was trying to get the child from her, and she was hanging on to the child,” Robinson said of Henderson and Dotson.
Robinson said Henderson broke Dotson’s cell phone to prevent her from dialing for help. She was eventually able to get away and drove to a neighboring house where someone called for help, Robinson said.
Robinson said Dotson was injured while Henderson was holding her down on the floor.
“During the altercation, a vase had been broken and was on the floor,” Robinson said. “During the struggle, they went to the floor where he was holding her down and she received lacerations.”
Robinson said Henderson is being held in the RSW Regional Jail on a probation violation stemming from an earlier conviction. Henderson’s next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 25 in Shenandoah County Circuit Court.
Henderson was also arrested on a drunken driving charge four days after the alleged attack on Dotson. He is scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County General District Court at 9 a.m. Sept. 22 for a hearing on the drunken driving charge.
