County to dedicate park improvements
Daily staff report
Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation Department recently made improvements and added to its facilities in Maurertown.
A donation from Columbia Gas Group and matching funds allocated by the Board of Supervisors allowed the department to renovate the basketball court and installed the final nine holes of the Signal View Disc Golf Course at the county park.
The department has invited the public to attend the dedication ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday in the park, 380 Park Lane, Maurertown. The event will be held at the basketball court following the 4th Annual “Run It!” Disc Golf Ace Race at 10 a.m.
The department plans to host a Pickleball demonstration and competitive basketball activities after the dedication ceremony.
Columbia Gas Group donated $22,000 to the county to help the department make the park improvements, according to information from the company’s senior communications specialist Scott Castleman.
In the past, Columbia Gas Group has donated to the Strasburg Volunteer Fire Department and Volunteer Rescue Squad and volunteer fire departments in Woodstock and Middletown.
